Teacher urges board not to renew Northern Highlands’ superintendent’s contract

A Northern Highlands Regional High School teacher asked the school board not to renew its contract with the district’s superintendent.

During the public comments section of the June 10 Board of Education (BOE) meeting, Bruce Emra, supervisor of Art, English, Library and TVP, said he believed it was not in the district’s best interest to keep Superintendent John Keenan for another three years, referring to an agenda item. Emra noted that he was speaking as an individual and not on behalf of anyone else.

  1. I agree with Mr. Emra as well. My children have long graduated from NHRHS, but Mr. Keenan was Principal while they were there. I felt him to be lacking in the proper leadership necessary to understand the needs of individual students. We also experienced a very unfortunate, underhanded, premeditated, group meeting, where we were supposed to meet with just one teacher, and Mr. Keenan took full responsibility. It was a personal attack, and I was outraged, to say the least. This is just one example of what I believe to be a lack of respect and leadership by Mr. Keenan.

  2. I completely agree with everything that Mr. Emra says. It is about time someone had the nerve to say out loud what everyone else has been saying in private.
